About the Workshops

Cassie’s Workshop:

In the first part of her workshop, Cassie will teach students the fundamentals of vocal health, vocal anatomy, and healthy singing technique. After learning these skills, students will have the opportunity to implement them in part two of the workshop! Cassie will teach participants how to sing a portion of the song “Stick it to the Man” from School of Rock, of which she was part of the original Broadway cast. Participants will then learn a portion of the Broadway choreography and put it all together! Throughout this process, students will learn about how to break down song lyrics, understand how lyrics impact a show’s story, and how to best perform a song.

Three things Cassie wants attendees to walk away with after her workshop:

  • An appreciation for the musical theatre artwork

  • Different ways to approach their own artistic worth

  • To have had a fun time!

Laurel’s Workshop:

Laurel will work with students on the art of acting through song. In this workshop, Laurel will guide students through how to personally connect to pieces through life experiences and how to relate to a character on a “real life” level. Additionally, students will learn how to finesse acting techniques such as the “moment before,” the arc of a song, and how a song changes from beginning to end. They will discuss things like: “why does the character feel the need to sing this song in this exact moment?” and, “what does the character discover through singing the song, and how are they different by the end?” Students will also tackle basic breathing techniques and how to tackle audition and performance nerves.

Three things Laurel wants attendees to walk away with after her workshop:

  • How to personally connect to a song so it feels most organic, truthful and authentic.

  • How to make each song uniquely YOURS and unlike any other actor’s performance.

  • How to feel calm and confident in audition settings.
