Wolf PAC’s Technical Apprentice Program (TAP) is a unique opportunity for students in 7th-12th grade interested in behind-the-scenes skills to learn from professional Designers, experienced Directors and skilled Technicians. At the end of the program, you are awarded a Certificate of Completion!

What is a Technical Apprentice?

A Technical Apprentice is a student in 7th-12th grade who has applied and has been accepted into one of our behind-the-scenes positions during Wolf PAC’s performance seasons. Apprentices will learn from a professional throughout the rehearsal process and work with production teams to expand their theatrical knowledge while at the same time contributing to the magic of a Wolf PAC production.

Assist artistic team throughout the rehearsal process and performances

Understand how the artistic vision meets technical elements to create the entire production

There are 13 TAP positions for our spring performance season beginning in January 2025. We have opportunities for those interested in design elements such as costumes and props, backstage opportunities under the leadership of our directing teams, and we have expanded to include operating our technical equipment.

Front of House Apprentice (FOH)

The Front of House Apprentice (FOH) will work with various professional staff while diving into a dynamic role that blends customer service, hospitality, marketing and the thrill of live theatre, helping to ensure every guest leaves with a smile and a story to tell.

Join the Front of House and Marketing team and be the welcoming face of unforgettable theatre experiences! Work with our Marketing Staff and various casts to take video and photos for social media use and prepare items to help market the shows. Learn about Box Office and ticket sales and the excitement of interacting with volunteers, patrons and casts.

    • Apprentice Front of House Manager at select shows

    • Learn Box Office system and assist with sales at select performances

    • Learn mechanics of lobby setup and strike

    • Act as a liaison with the volunteer committee

    • Perform volunteer training at all performances

    • Learn and execute all front of house positions (ushering, candygrams, merchandise, ticket sales, concessions, etc.)

    • Create Candygram bags

    • Take video at one dress rehearsal per age group for use online and social media

    • Attend at least one performance per age group

Directing Apprentice (DA)

The Directing Apprentice (DA) will work closely with a directing team for an intensive, behind-the-scenes experience designed to support the performers and artistic team. DAs will gain skills in management, leadership, and collaboration as they become an integral member of the production team to help create theater with younger performers.

This position is ideal for anyone who is interested in mentoring younger students, learning the art of directing throughout a rehearsal process, and sharing their love of theatre with others.

  • ● To assist artistic team from start of the rehearsal process through performances 

    ● To collaborate with actors and directors for a unified vision of the production 

    ● To enhance leadership and mentorship skills 

    ● To lead small rehearsals in any discipline (choreography, music direction, etc.) as discussed and decided with team 

    ● To work in small groups to review choreography, blocking, lines, lyrics, etc. as needed 

    ● To assist with all stage management needs (attendance, blocking, tracking information, etc.) for rehearsals 

    ● Work backstage during tech, dress and performances in a stage manager role 

    **Perform as a narrator in a guided experience with the actors (for 1st and 2nd grade DAs only)

Props Apprentice (PA)

The Props Apprentice (PA) will work alongside a professional props designer for our 3rd -6th grade musicals: Frozen KIDS or The Addams Family: Young@Part, to get a full experience in helping design and execute the props component of a musical from beginning to end. Once in the technical phase of the rehearsal process, the PA will be backstage, overseeing all props needed for the performances. 

This position is ideal for anyone who has a passion for art, painting, and crafts and is curious about how these design elements are created and used in a theatre setting. 

    • To assist Props Designer with vision, execution, and tracking of props 

    • To collaborate with the Props Designer on designing, pulling, and curating props 

    • To manage the backstage area and props table during dress rehearsals and performances 

    • To enhance independence and leadership skills 

    • To hone and expand artistic skills through the creation and building of props 

    • To learn more about and be comfortable backstage in a new environment

Costume Apprentice (CA)

The Costume Apprentice (CA) will be paired with one of our costume designers to support any and all of our productions this fall at Wolf PAC. They will have a unique experience that will allow them to be involved in the process from initial vision to tech to execution of the project! 3 

This position is ideal for someone who is interested in costuming and costume design but wants to learn more about the skill from various designers. 

    • To assist our designers from start of the rehearsal process through performances 

    • To enhance independence and leadership skills 

    • To learn more about the behind-the-scenes process from concept to performance 

    • To build skills as needed for costume design (sewing, stitching, sketching, etc.) 

    • To help prep backstage for dress rehearsals 

    • To assist backstage during performances for quick changes and other costume needs

Board Apprentice (BA)

The Board Apprentice (BA) will choose the element that excites them most (lighting or sound) and work with a professional technician on our 1st and 2nd grade fall musical productions. After the team’s second production meeting, they will work with the technician for the remainder of the tech process on creating, building, and operating cues and ultimately, will run and operate the board for dress rehearsal and the performances of the production. 

This position is ideal for anyone interested in the technical elements of a performance and eager to learn the tools needed to run a light or sound board. 

    • To learn how to run and operate equipment needed 

    • To enhance independence and leadership skills 

    • To learn about the behind-the-scenes process from concept to performance 

    • To understand more about the tech, dress rehearsal, and performance experience from a technical perspective 

    • To work one-on-one with a technician and learn how lighting or sound fits into the production’s vision
